The Committee’s Charge

A well designed and implemented strategic planning process will empower the college to establish priorities in alignment with our newly adopted mission, vision and core values, and institution-wide learning outcomes, and also develop strategies for advancing those priorities. Furthermore, effective strategic planning provides our campus community the opportunity to thoroughly evaluate and reach consensus on the institution’s future direction through campus-wide conversations and through an understanding of the future trends, challenges and needs of the maritime industry and the college’s other external stakeholders.

Members of the committee are asked to dedicate themselves throughout this process to the best overall interests of the college. Members reflect the full campus community, and bring that broad perspective to bear on the process. Members do not represent any constituency – they do not bring messages from, speak for, or report back to any group. The planning committee is not intended to develop a plan based on its members’ aims and interests.

The roles of the committee and its members are to listen to input from the range of stakeholders, aggregate and synthesize data and industry-related studies collected throughout the planning process, and shape the outcomes into a draft plan, and then ultimately a final strategic plan for the college.

The committee will conduct an open and consultative process, including regularly posting progress updates on a planning webpage, email and other communication, open forums, and solicitation of individual input and ideas.

Key to the success of the new strategic plan will be for the committee to recommend a method and structure for monitoring and implementing the plan.
