Following WWII, ships became specialized.
The age of the general cargo ship and break bulk cargoes were drawing to a close, and larger, more efficient ships were being designed and built. Oil tankers, gas carriers, container ships, RoRo ships, and more were developed to build global trade.
The Modern Shipping exhibit explores the history of how these ships came into existence, and how technology was introduced into the maritime industry to make shipping more efficient, economical, and safer.
