Application Information
Freshman admissions decisions are based on the strength of your high school curriculum, SAT or ACT scores (if submitted), extra-curricular activities and one letter of recommendation. See below for all deadlines and details regarding documentation required for admission.
Applicants
Freshmen applicants should complete either the Common Application or the SUNY Application, with no preference given by the institution, by the corresponding deadline, which you can find below.

High School Curriculum
Show us you are dedicated to your studies - take AP, honors and other advanced courses, if you can. Get involved in clubs and extracurricular activities.
We recommend that all applicants take:
- 4 years of English
- 4 years of social studies
- 3 years of mathematics
- Pre-calculus is required for engineering
- 3 years of science
- Chemistry and physics are strongly recommended
We look at your entire transcript - not just junior year. We do notice if your grades have improved over time. We do look closely at your math and science coursework.

Test-Optional Admissions Policy
The State University of New York will suspend any required submission of SAT/ACT examination scores in determining undergraduate admissions eligibility for all SUNY 4-year degree-granting colleges for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a temporary change of admission eligibility requirements applying to the fall 2025 and spring 2026 admission cycles only.
SUNY Maritime College will maintain its longstanding commitment to holistic review of student applicants that includes grades, program of study, exam scores (including Regents, AP, IB, dual-enrollment college credits), academic achievements, non-academic achievements, and other activities that allow for the evaluation of the potential success of a candidate for admission.
For those prospective applicants who have already taken or will take the SAT/ACT and wish to submit scores, SUNY Maritime College will include those official scores as part of their holistic review.
Please note: When you apply to SUNY Maritime College, you will be asked if you wish for your standardized test scores to be considered as a part of your admissions review. Upon making this selection, this will determine how your application will be reviewed.
The Office of Admissions will remain flexible and transparent through this process. As such, we will allow for students to request a change if test scores should be evaluated as part of the application review process if the selection is made in error upon submission of the application. Please note that once a final admissions decision has been rendered a change to the consideration of testing cannot be made.
Freshman applicants can take the SAT or ACT. We look at the combined score of evidence-based reading and mathematics sections on the SAT. Our exam codes are:
Supplemental Application/Essay
Students must complete the essay portion of either application to be considered for admission.
Letter of Recommendation
You must submit one letter of recommendation. Please send a letter from an academic source, a coach, or another mentor.
Submit your letters of recommendation through SUNY Campus Connect, Naviance, or by mail. Mailed letters must be sent from your high school.
Early Decision Agreement
If you apply through early decision, you must fill out the early decision agreement form by December 1. You will receive instructions on how to log in after you submit your application.
