Andrew Wowczuk ’69 and his family members gathered on campus June 17 for a special Office Naming ceremony held in his honor. Wowczuk is a world expert/thought leader in implementing Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies for the manufacturing and military services industries. In 2020, a generous $50,000 donation was made to the NY Maritime Innovation Center at Maritime College on his behalf.
Wowczuk and his family were treated to a tour of the College and campus grounds during their visit. The family was then led to the third floor of the Maritime Academic Center for the unveiling of the plaque on the newly named Andrew Wowczuk office (previously #319). Professor Chris Clott of the NY Maritime Innovation Center along with Maritime College Provost, Dr. Jennifer Waters, offered brief thank you remarks to Wowczuk. “Your generosity has made Maritime College a better institution, and I thank you for your contribution and support of the College,” stated Dr. Waters. Wowczuk’s son, Yurij, offered his remarks on the role Maritime College played in his father’s life saying, “I appreciate the role that SUNY Maritime played in our upbringing. My father pushed us in the direction of STEAM and STEM programs, and that had an incredible bearing on our success in school and professionally.”
