Professor Jeffrey A. Weiss is a full time Professor at the State University of New York, Maritime College and currently teaches graduate level courses in charter parties, maritime law, the business of shipping, international business law, marine insurance, among others.
Professor Weiss also teaches professional shipping and maritime law seminars to industry on behalf of the Association of Shipbrokers and Agents (USA). He has taught similar seminars at the request of the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence and for the United Nations. Professor Weiss also teaches an annual seminar on behalf of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators concerning arbitration and other alternate dispute resolution procedures.
He is an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of New York and the U.S. Federal Courts and has litigated and arbitrated numerous disputes arising out of international shipping and trade transactions. He has represented shipowners, charterers, cargo interests, and insurers.
He has also worked in the business of shipping both shoreside and also afloat as a merchant marine deck officer.
Professor Weiss earned a J.D. from the Pace University School of Law, and an M.S. and B.S. from S.U.N.Y. Maritime College, all with the highest honors.
