A new director has been appointed to the SUNY Maritime College Library. Jillian Kehoe comes to SUNY Maritime College with a wealth of experience in library arts. Kehoe received her undergraduate degree in Art History from Stony Brook University and soon began her career with an artist foundation establishing an archive and study center. Intrigued by the archival process, she pursued a master’s degree in Library Science at LIU Post, formerly known as CW Post. Kehoe obtained an internship at The Queens Museum of Art while pursuing her master’s and upon graduation, was recruited as the Art Architecture Librarian at the New York Institute of Technology. She also received a second master's degree in Art History at Queens College. Through her work at the Institute, Kehoe discovered her passion and moved on to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she led the reader services department, oversaw access, circulation, reference and stacks management. Kehoe returned to higher education after three years at The Met. As Maritime College Library Director, she seeks to reintegrate the Center for Teaching Excellence and archives into the library. Her plans on developing the library include expanding the library lecture series, improving outreach and producing more interest in the library. Kehoe also encourages faculty and staff to take advantage of the library and its rich resources, as her door is always open. “I am thrilled to assume the position of Director of Library and look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students to advance awareness of library services. Maritime College is a unique institution and part of that uniqueness stems from its historic location in Fort Schuyler and its distinctive maritime-related collections and archives,” stated Kehoe.
