Professor James Downey is an Army veteran, lifelong educator, and Author. He has worked at SUNY Maritime College for over 7 years in the Marine Technology and Operations Department. He teaches, U.S. Coast Guard licensing courses to include, Mariner Water Survival and Medical First Aid. In addition, Professor Downey teaches Nutrition for Fitness and Sports.
After leaving the military Professor Downey received a Bachelor of Education from Salem State College in Salem Massachusetts, and his masters in Maritime and Naval Studies at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx, NY. Professor Downey is currently working towards his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. (2022). He is the college Faculty Secretary, a member of the Faculty Assessment Committee, Suitability Board, Veteran’s Faculty Representative, and the Scholarship Review Committee. Professor Downey holds certifications in U.S Coast Guard Water Survival & Medical First Aid and Medical Person In charge. He has been a New York State EMT for 6 years.
