Admiral’s Retirement

On Tuesday, May 21, over 250 friends, family, alumni, and members of the Maritime College campus community gathered at the riverside Maritime Academic Center to recognize and celebrate Admiral and Kim Alfultis on their decade of service as President and First Lady of the College.

What began as a humble ceremony happily evolved to an extended presentation of proclamations and well wishes, led by Master of Ceremonies Captain Morgan McManus ’92. Honored guests and speakers included Elaine Chao, former US Secretary of Transportation, who worked tirelessly alongside Admiral Alfultis to commission the first National Security Mission Vessel to Maritime College, the Empire State VII. Also in attendance were Vanessa Gibson, Bronx Borough President, John Valvo ’83, representing the Alumni Association, Captain Tim Ferrie ’78 of Sandy Hook Pilots and RADM Wulf, Deputy Superintendent of the US Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point.

Thanks to generous sponsors, the event continued with a rooftop ‘afterglow’ as guests enjoyed a steel-drum performance and breathtaking views of the sunset over the New York City skyline. Congratulations again to Admiral and Kim Alfultis on their well-deserved retirement!
