Dr. Vallejo completed his B.S. in Applied Physics and M.S. in Physics from the University of the Philippines. Dr. Vallejo then obtained a Ph.D. in Physics degree from the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, KS.  His research interest is in Condensed Matter Physics specifically in the epitaxial growth of thin films and Nanostructured materials. His research includes the production of crystalline substrates on amorphous engineering substrates using ion beam nano-texturing, which is crucial to the fabrication of high quality thin film devices such as superconductors, infrared detectors and solar cells.

Dr. Vallejo’s research interests include device physics, vacuum science, nanostructured devices, ion-solid interactions and thin film device characterization/metrology such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Secondary Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Reflection High Energy Electron Diffraction (RHEED). Before joining SUNY Maritime College, Dr. Vallejo held teaching positions from William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ and the University of the Philippines at Los Banos.
