Institutional Research
The Office of Institutional Research provides official data intended to assist with the planning and decision-making process of the college and to comply with SUNY, state, and federal regulations. The primary functions of the office are:

Submission of reports to SUNY and federal agencies and other organizations to assure compliance with system and federal policies and legislation.

Provide support for campus planning, budgeting, and enrollment management activities, which meet the operational information needs of the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Chairs, and various management and planning committees within the college.

Conduct special studies, surveys, and analyses to support campus leadership.
Mission
The mission of the Office of Institutional Research is to provide comprehensive, accurate, and timely information and data analysis to support strategic planning, decision-making, resource allocation, and assessment efforts to support the college’s mission of “educating dynamic leaders for the global maritime industry.”
Vision
The Office of Institutional Research will be the catalyst for a Maritime College culture that embraces data-informed decision-making and assessment processes that advance the college’s vision of being “recognized as the leading maritime educational institution.”
Services and Products
The Office of Institutional Research provides the following services:

Collect, analyze, and submit data for numerous reports and surveys, including SUNY’s internal data collection, IPEDS, SAM, government surveys, and higher education publications like U.S. News and World Report and the Princeton Review

Support assessing the effectiveness of achieving Maritime College’s strategic plan goals and objectives.

Support data collection for Middle States, ABET, and U.S. Coast Guard assessments

Provide the information for senior management to make data-driven decisions and strategic planning

Assist with the processing, disseminating, collecting, and analyzing course evaluations
-
Support the design, collection, and analysis of internal and external surveys

Respond to internal requests for data from different departments and support ad hoc institutional research projects/working groups.

Standards of Ethical Practices
Per Middle States Standard II: “Ethics and integrity are central, indispensable, and defining hallmarks of effective higher education institutions. In all activities, whether internal or external, an institution must be faithful to its mission, honor its contracts and commitments, adhere to its policies, and represent itself truthfully.”

Institutional Research and Assessment is committed to providing accurate data and impartial analysis and avoiding conflicts of interest or the appearance of such conflicts in all activities and among all constituents.

Honesty and truthfulness in public relations announcements, advertisements, recruiting, and admissions materials and practices, as well as in internal communications;

Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and commission reporting policies, regulations, and requirements including:

Reporting regarding the full disclosure of information on institution-wide assessments, graduation, retention, certification, and licensure or licensing board pass rates

The institution’s compliance with the commission’s requirements of affiliation.
