Seder

In honor of Passover, the SUNY Maritime College Jewish Culture Club organized and hosted a Model Seder. The Seder is a Jewish tradition on Passover where the story of the Exodus from Egypt is told in a gathering and followed by a traditional dinner. During the Exodus, Jewish tradition holds that the Israelites were led out of slavery.

Club co-presidents Lea Brandsdorfer and Timothy Montera organized the Seder with help from club adviser Laurie Zinberg, coordinator of international student services, and professors Dr. Shmuel Yahalom, global business and transportation, and Dr. Mark Meirowitz, humanities.

More than 20 students attended, as well as Rear Adm. Michael Alfultis, college president, and Kim Alfultis, first lady, as well as several other members of the college faculty and staff.

During the event, the Haggada, the traditional book that tells the story of the Exodus from Egpyt, was recited. The dinner was prepared by members of the club, Mrs. Alfultis and Capt. Catie Hanft, interim commandant of cadets.
