The procession for the July and September Graduate Recognition Ceremony began as graduates marched into the Maritime Academic Center. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joseph Hoffman, welcomed the sixty-seven candidates before introducing Admiral Alfultis to the podium. “Congratulations to each of our graduates! You have worked hard and you have overcome obstacles to reach this moment, but you persevered,” he exclaimed. He also offered words of advice and encouragement to graduates in preparation of the next chapter of their lives, “Your time at Maritime College was just the beginning of what will become a voyage that stops at many ports along the way. To reach each port we must set our sails, catch the wind and steer our course. There will be storms you encounter along the way, but you cannot let these cause you to veer off course. Dream big and don’t let anything get in the way of those dreams!”

During the ceremony, two graduates were recognized for their outstanding performance on the U.S. Coast Guard License Exam. Earning the highest score on the Deck License exam, Alexander Fron secured a 95 average, and on the Engine License exam, Samuel Quabanni obtained a 92 average. RADM Francis Pelkowski ’84 administered the oath while graduates receiving their Federal Merchant Marine License stood and raised their right hand. Upon being sworn in, graduates assembled as each candidate was awarded their degree.

An intimate reception followed the recognition ceremony with Admiral Alfultis offering the toast, “To the graduates on your accomplishments and achievements. Good luck and best wishes as you begin your career. May your journey be filled with smooth seas and calm winds. May you always find a safe harbor for shelter from storms that may come your way. May your lives be filled with happiness and success!”

The entire Maritime College Community wishes all of today’s graduates much success in their future endeavors. Congratulations graduates!
