Highschool SailingHigh School Sailing

Learn to sail, race or gain the skills to compete at local, regional or even national level regattas in our exciting, new program - High School Sailing at Maritime College! Students of all abilities in grades 7 through 12 are invited join SUNY Maritime College for our Fall Season of High School Sailing.  SUNY Maritime College provides everything needed to participate including sailboats (420s, FJs and Keelboats - weather dependent), coaches, safety boats, and life jackets at one of the best waterfront facilities in the country.  High School Sailing is co-ed and open to both individuals and teams. Sailors from multiple schools will be combined based on skill level, have an opportunity to sail with different partners, and may attend regattas as part of a composite team.  If students want to compete they can do so with the support of their school or under SUNY Maritime College’s name. Spring Season: Mondays and Fridays, 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Monday, April 9, through Friday, June 1

Fall Season: Mondays and Fridays, 4  to 6:30 p.m.
Friday, September 7, through Friday, November 2

Coaches: Waterfront Staff, Maritime College Sailing Team Members

Age/Prerequisite: 7th through 12th grade students, beginners to advanced racers

Fee: $400 per person, teams choosing to compete will incur additional regatta entry fees

 NNorth Uorth U Rules and Tactics

North U. Seminars teach racing strategy, tactics and rules with an emphasis on practical, straightforward ideas that will help you win- and you can’t play the game if you don’t know the rules. The North U Rules & Tactics Seminar covers the racing rules (new & old) and related tactics with a case-based curriculum so you’ll understand your rights, obligations and tactical options in every situation.  Dave Perry’s North U Racing Rules & Tactics Workbook is included with the course  North U Seminars feature top instructors - not just great sailors, but outstanding seminar leaders with decades of teaching experience.  The emphasis is on your sailing, not their sea-stories.  Register today!

 Safety at SeaSafety at Sea


SUNY Maritime College is pleased to once again partner with the Storm Trysail Foundation to host the popular hands-on Safety at Sea Seminar. On the water sessions and demonstrations include man overboard recovery, setting storm sails, emergency steering, pool sessions with PFD, life raft use and combating hypothermia. This US Sailing Sanctioned Seminar is designed to meet the Safety at Sea requirements for the 2016 Newport to Bermuda Race.

 Private Sailing LessonsPrivate Sailing Lessons

Want to learn at your own pace or brush up on your skills? Private lessons with a US SAILING Certified Instructor on your boat or ours are a great way to build your confidence and focus on the skills most important to you. What’s more you can learn with family or friends at no additional cost. US SAILING  Basic Keelboat Certification available for extra fee if you meet the standards.

Date: At your convenience April – September, please confirm date BEFORE registering for a private lesson.

Time: At your convenience; minimum 3 hours

Age/Prerequisites: 10 years old +

Fee: $450 for 3-hour lesson (up to three people) on our boat; $300 for 3-hour lesson (up to three people) on your boat plus travel expenses; $100 each additional hour
